Along with two friends. I co-founded the CHS Architecture & Engineering Club, and have served as the founding President since sophomore year. In this role, I am responsible for managing the club's finances, ensuring its non-profit status, overseeing all projects, leading the leadership team, and maintaining strong connections with the school administration.
Sadly, Columbia High School lacks engineering and architectural classes beyond calculus. We had one teacher teaching architecture, CAD, and fundamentals of engineering (who was our advisor for year one). With his abrupt retirement, we realized we couldn't leave our school without opportunities for students interested In engineering. I decided that if the school wouldn't create a space to allow kids to explore engineering, I would.
We accessed various options that could allow us to gain the benefits of becoming a non-profit. I researched options to establish non-profit status and determined that a fiscal sponsor was the ideal model. After vetting several fiscal sponsor options, I selected HackClub as the perfect option. HackClub would allow us to store money with their HackClub Bank option, which was ideal as storing money with our high school wasn't a viable option due to the complexity of depositing and withdrawing money.
